Ascension Day

Thursday May 14 was Ascension Day, one of the major feast days of the church.

After Jesus ascended, He sent the Holy Spirit, and then called His disciples 

Into ministry around the world. 

God is calling someone right now

         to ministry in His church.

He has called someone every generation.

         Often,

                  unexpected people

                           from unexpected places.

Is it you?

Is God calling you to serve

         as a teacher of the faith 

(a catechist), 

or an ordained Deacon, or

         an ordained Priest

in His church?

In your community?

Every generation, 

God calls up ordinary people 

to lead and serve His Church, 

and gives them the gifts they need to faithfully do 

His will.

Let us pray.

Almighty God, we thank you that you raise up ordinary people in every generation to lead and serve your Church, and you give them the gifts they need to faithfully do your will. We pray for those here today who you are calling to serve you as catechists, deacons, and priests; make them open to hear your voice, brave to ask others to pray for them, and humble to submit themselves to your Holy Word. 

Father, by the Holy Spirit, send forth many labourers for the harvest, so that all may hear and know your love made known in Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray.
