Last week, the bishop and his wife travelled to Whitehorse, Yukon, to attend the service of installation for the new Bishop of the Yukon. The journey took several days each way and offered countless opportunities to enjoy the beauty of Canada's North.
Along the way, they encountered an incredible variety of wildlife. On one day's drive alone, they saw eight black bears, seven rabbits, two caribou, a herd of wood bison, two flocks of Stone sheep, a swan, two moose, and many other birds. On other days, they spotted even more bears, including a grizzly, as well as sandhill cranes with their chicks—and, of course, many, many, many mosquitoes!
This was the first visit to the Yukon for both of them. Following the recommendation of many people from the diocese, they made a stop at the Liard Hot Springs for a relaxing swim. Most nights were spent at campsites, sleeping in a bed set up in the back of their minivan.
The scenery throughout the trip was breathtaking, and they thoroughly enjoyed both the journey and the opportunity to experience this remarkable part of Canada.
