On the return journey from Whitehorse, +David and his wife took a detour that had been recommended by a tour guide at one of the visitor information centres. The scenic route provided a welcome change from the road they had travelled on the way to Whitehorse.

Along the way, +David remembered that the grave of the Rt. Rev. William Carpenter Bompas was located in the community of Carcross, which was on their route. He and his wife took time to explore the cemetery and were pleased to find Bishop Bompas' grave.

The Rt. Rev. William Carpenter Bompas was the first Bishop of the Diocese of Athabasca. During his ministry, he also served as Bishop of Mackenzie River and Bishop of Selkirk, leaving a lasting legacy throughout Canada's North.
