The Bishop had the pleasure of presiding at the Eucharist Service at St. Helen’s, Fairview on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Following the service, the congregation gathered for lunch and enjoyed a time of fellowship and conversation with the Bishop.
St. Helen’s is a small but vibrant parish located in the downtown mall — a truly unique setting that places them right in the heart of the community. Directly across the hall from the local Food Bank, the parish has found a meaningful way to serve their neighbours.
Twice a month, when the Food Bank is open on Thursdays, the congregation hosts “Food for Thought.” During this time, they open their doors to offer a safe, warm, and welcoming space where anyone in the community can stop in for water, coffee, and friendly conversation. Sometimes visitors bring guitars and music fills the space; other times, people simply come to rest or to find someone willing to listen.
The parish also hosts a Bible study that brings together members from various churches in Fairview — Anglicans, Lutherans, United Church members, Mennonites, and others — who gather to read, discuss, and learn from Scripture together. With different translations and perspectives, they explore God’s Word and share their faith in an atmosphere of mutual respect and friendship. In addition to their in-person ministry,
St. Helen’s streams their worship services, allowing members of the congregation who are unable to attend in person to participate in real time. Through this livestream, people can listen to the readings and sermon and even join in the prayers as part of the gathered community.
St. Helen’s may be small in size, but it is rich in community spirit and faithful witness, serving as a shining example of hospitality and Christian unity in Fairview.
